Mountain running and ultrarunning in Scotland. This is also a picture blog about a 650 mile run on Scotland's Watershed in 2012 - and the training and recovery involved.
A blog about mountain running and ultrarunning in Scotland…
In 2012 I ran a continuous 650 mile route on Scotland’s Watershed: a stunning geological feature that runs from the Scotland-England border to Duncansby Head near John O’Groats. I spent two years training for the challenge clocking up 3,000 miles between January 2011 and May 2012.
This blog is dedicated to raising awareness about Scotland’s Watershed and the challenge of seeking out wild and little explored (or under-explored) mountain routes in Scotland.
I am obsessed with mountain running, but I sometimes ditch the rucksack and write about ultras. In 2012 I came 11th overall in the Scottish Ultramarathon Series Championship.
A big thanks to Lyon Outdoor who sponsored me on my run on Scotland’s Watershed with La Sportiva footwear, Exped and Aquapac kit and other essential items. I also received generous help from Ullapool Bakery in the form of high-energy seed and oatcakes to see me through 30 days in the mountains.
I am part of the guiding team at gofurther scotland. An extremely active mountain guiding company dedicated to giving people unforgettable mountain days in the far North West of Scotland. Run by people with a passion for outdoors, Wester Ross and Skye.
You can contact me on colinATcolinmeek.co.uk or through gofurther Scotland.
Thanks, Colin Meek
